I am just reading the Jane Austen Book Club (yes, I know I'm miles behind everyone else)...and in there is awoman who wouldnt let her child get a pet, 'cos it's a sad story waiting to happen. They always die.

I think I am that woman.

Nice kitty though.

clank please read from kathryns blog...
So, C. S. Lewis brings us our Parting Quote tonight, from his work The Four Loves (which I have read, and very much enjoy):

To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket — safe, dark, motionless, airless — it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside of Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.

clank,, lets hope my pal emma doesn't remove this post but if you don't want to put up with a "real" animal for your daughter lately I've been seeing these things called "sleeping pet " in various small stores , 7-11 s , that sort of place . A dog or cat , your choice. The cat looks most realistic beacause its more a cat sized thing . Its a curled up animal in a basket that has batteries, The batteries make it appear to be breathing . They are pretty nice and if I wasn't stuck with the real thing I'd buy one . Hell , I've been close to buying one anyway but lets discount that since I'm also on a Lava Lamp buying rampage and that might have something to do with it . When I saw Nesta in the basket I immediately thought of those "sleeping Pet " things . allan

I giggled me little head off at the lava lamp line.
I will think on the pet thing. I don't want to be in hell, like in Kathryns blog.
Perhaps I might get her a goldfish. I had a goldfish in the eighties and kept it in my bedroom. But where I used so much hairspray to keep my "Van Halen Hairdo" in shape, it coated the surface of the water and the poor old goldfish kicked the bucket.

Clanky,
I was anti-pet for a long time, but these cat-raising broads around here changed my mind. So last year after Christmas we went to the Humane Society and let Nesta pick us to go home with
