Big mistake. LP and I (just on occasion) have been taking Nesta out on the porch to sit when we go out. So far she’s never gotten off the bench and she likes sniffing around out there.
But recently she’s been going to the front door to meow and whine. She never ever meows any other time—just when she wants outside on the porch.
BP warned both of us not to get started taking her outside, but we wouldn’t listen. Now we have to listen to the cat meowing at the door. We also have to listen to BP’s “I told you so”s.
Earlier I had her outside with me and she got down in her kitty crouch stance (Crouching Tiger Hidden Nesta) when she saw a robin in the fountain. I thought there was going to be carnage.

Oh Emma, I coulda told you that, Monkee has never been outside and she doesn't try to get out or cry or anything but let them out a couple of times and they get used to it and want to go all the time. Going to be really hard to break her of that now...
sucker
She'll get over it. I occasionally let Jack and Scout out under very controlled circumstances and they'll pout for a bit and then, when they haven't been allowed out in a while, go back to not caring.
You need to get her a "Da Bird" -- I'm tellin' ya, she'll go berserk and forget about outside.

Seriously Emms, My boss puts her cat on a leash and walks her. Lu
I've seen that cat leash thing! It's wild.
I coulda told you taking the kitty outside was a bad idea. Is she fixed?
I only have one who wants to go outside; of course, he's the one whose previous owner let his broken hip heal wrong, so he's the cat who would do the worst outside.
I had no luck leash training my cats (and now the harness is too small for any of them). All they do is roll and get tangled in the leash, but I had a friend who would take his cat out for walks.
When I was growing up, we had a very very long cord that was staked into the ground near the patio. We would hook the other end onto the cat's collar, so she had free roam of almost the entire backyard, yet she couldn't get to the fences. The cat really enjoyed going outside, but we never lost one due to running away or getting lost.
My friends all thought it was crazy to put a cat on a leash, but it was a 30 foot leash, and there were no stray or outside cats in the neighborhood, and no problems with dogs, so it really just allowed us to make sure the cat stayed in the yard and was safe.
I've thought about putting the cats on a long tether and letting them roam around the yard. Problem is, my cats are like Houdini. No matter how escape proof the harness, Scout will figure a way out and then once Jack sees her get out of it. he copies her. The only way that I think it would work is if I put it on so tight they can't breathe but . . . that wouldn't be good.
Cat owner:'I love my cat for it's wild independent spirit . That's why I keep it tethered up in my back yard"
I miss Beijing!!! ::::cries::::
Mum -- Mine are more like dogs which is why I like them. :-P
