My Hummer!

Bucky, Bobby and Albuquerquerequereeeeeeee

1. A man named “Bucky” on the FBI’s most wanted list just strikes me as funny.
They caught him yesterday. Apparently he has quite a loyal following.

2. I am listening to Bob Dylan’s Modern Times. Can you say “GENIUS”? I dare anyone to listen to "Spirit on the Water" and not a) tap her foot, and b) well up with tears. Maybe it’s my hormones. I looked on His website (I capitalize “his” because Dylan is God) trying to find the printed lyrics to Modern Times and they’re not up yet. I want Congress to pass a law making lyrics in CDs mandatory. I bought the “LIMITED EDITION” version with a bonus CD. I’m special don’t you know.
His voice is so powerful and melodic (shaddup Kath, I don’t need you saying “I like Dylan’s music but his voice sux.”) Keep your mean anti-Dylan comments off my blog. OR ELSE! ; )

3. Not much happening in the Writes household: BP’s in Albuquerquerequereeeeeeee, and LP stayed the night with Eric. They supposedly went to a football game. He should be home at noon and then he gets to mow the lawn and clean his room. We’ll see how that goes. Me? I’m doing errands today and washing clothes.

The moon looked absolutely gorgeous this morning!

I have been cheating on BP.
For the last three evenings around 7pm I sit out on my front porch and wait for Mister Hummingbird to come by. Again, last night, he did not disappoint. There is a butterfly bush right near my front porch and hummers must love them too because this guy flew from long flower to long flower sucking nectar. Insatiable. At one point, it got about three inches away from my face and just hovered. I love looking at hummingbirds.
Although my garden looks pretty tired, it’s really alive with butterflies, moths, hummers and yellow finches. Yesterday evening a huge ass raven—it was as big as a cat!-- was bathing in the bird bath.
Oh, and the one-eared black cat that my neighbor Bill feeds and waters left me a present on my back porch. A dead mouse. I asked LP to get a shovel out of the shed so I could scoop it up. I saw Bill out on his deck so I told him that his cat accidentally left a gift for him on my porch. He laughed and said, “That’s okay….you can have it!”

Kath sent me a wonderful interview with Angela Kinsey who plays Angela on The Office. It's terrific so I thought I'd share. Thanks Kath!

suri with the fringed top

----
BP's 86-year old uncle is coming to visit and "stay awhile."
Don't ask me what that means. He lives in California
and wants to move to Indiana because it's cheaper to live here.
The man has his four daughters in California who
have offered assistance, both monetary and otherwise,
but he's being stubborn I guess. So he's coming out here
to see how the cold weather affects his asthma.
(It's not cold here yet so I'm thinking he'll stay thru
Thanksgiving at least.)
He'll probably stay most of the time with my mother-in-law.
He wants to buy a house here and that's what he'll spend
his time on--house hunting. It's got to have plenty of room
and a garage. He has more tools than BP--if that's possible.
He has a veritable library of engineering and technical books
(He's a retired engineer.) He said he wants to join a dance club.
Quite the lady's man. My m-i-l thinks the reason he wants
to move out here is to get away from one of his
girlfriends. He's the uncle we visited on our
California trip two years ago.

Monday: A Day off work

We had a nice time with my sister yesterday. We let LP pick the restaurant and of course he picked PF Chang’s. He loves that place—loves their steamed dumplings and orange peel chicken. I like their flavored iced tea (I think it’s mango.) Anyway I had the shrimp lo mein, and Lexus had some kind of spicy chicken.

Then she took LP shopping. Nowadays his favorite stores are Finish Line (for the sneakers—he got four pairs) and Man Alive for the shirts, jackets and jeans (which he got a boatload.)
I sat in the mall with a cup of Costa Rican coffee from Barney’s while they went into a record store. I saw three teenaged girls, obviously together, walking down the mall and they all had their cell phones glued to their ears. Walking with their friends yet talking to other friends (?) at the same time. Sigh. I don’t get it. This generation will all be deaf before they’re sixty. Mark my words on that.

Anyway I got a cool black Cole Haan purse and my sissy bought me Bob Dylan’s new CD Modern Times which I’m going to listen to today while house cleaning.

Yesterday when we got home I dug up two gigantic overgrown lavender plants that had grown into bushes and planted some Shasta Daisies, coneflowers, an iceberg rose, and Veronica that I’d dug up from various other places around the garden. Afterwards I was sweaty and hotter than a fresh fucked fox in a forest fire. (NotFan can steal that line for her next book.)

Today, if the weather cooperates, I need to dig up this overgrown sedum that flops in the middle and some bronze fennel and get rid of it. I have three potted scabiosa pincushion plants that I need to find homes for before weather gets cold, and I think they’ll go nicely in that spot.

Ok, a lot of butterfly pictures

Yesterday was simply gorgeous here. 70's, blue skies, no humidity. I was outside a lot and at one time there were a few dozen butterflies on my butterfly bush. I love it! All different kinds, monarchs, swallow tails, this black one with blue lines, those small yellowish ones, so I took pictures. The clear blue thingy hanging in the first pipcture is the bottom of my favorite windchime. Today LP and I are off to my sister's for lunch and shopping. Will she give me another cast off purse? Here's hoping!! Posted by Picasa

It's Friday

BB update

I hate the Final Four. Janey & Erika had better bring their game because aint no way in hell Chilltown is going to bring one of them to the Final Two. Bringing in Colonel Sanders for ousted George was the stupidest thing in reality television. Talk about your product placement! Chicken George didn’t even dig into the bucket, and chow down on a breast! I’ll miss CG. I still want Janelle to win. Hey Tree & blu: Was that a HICKEY on Janelle’s neck during last night’s show?? What’s with Big Brother allowing Will to whisk off Janey for a pow-wow before the nominations. BB wants them in the Final Two soooooo much. I hate Julie Chen.

Project Runway

You can tell PR has hit the Bigs when they jet off the six to Paris. Cool beans. Vincent’s outfit was boring beyond belief, and I hated that decoration thing on Evil Jeffrey’s penis. WTF? And Kayne. Oh my. I’m surprised he’s still in. Angela was done-in by her butt rosettes . . . and linen?? Linen? To travel in? I liked Laura’s dress, I just wish it was in another color. Uli looked very surprised that the judges didn’t fawn over her creation, but it looked like every dress she’s made so far. I love Michael.

Tomorrow . . . pictures of the smartest cat in the world! I hope Meme gets back from her vacation in time to admire it.

BP's birthday

Yesterday was BP's fiftieth birthday. He wanted a
few things from one of his favorite stores (Harbor Freight Tools.)
And instead of going out for dinner he had a simple request.
He wanted me to make him ham and my "special eggs." And so I did.
I even threw in a bagel and his favorite strawberry preserves.

Special eggs:

5 or 6 large eggs, whisked with three tablespoons cold water.
salt
pepper

Melt a pat of butter in a skillet and cook the eggs over a very low heat,
stirring gently until just set. Serves two. They were good
(I add chopped fresh parsley and basil in mine--BP doesn't like
"weeds".)

RIP Gossip Column

Respighi demands a new post so I’ve selected to rag on Binx and his new Katy Tried column. He’s too lazy (or uninteresting) to post his own blog and he’s been itching to take over the gossip column for a long while now.

This little chestnut is from his latest post:
Spendastic: does any body in hr know emmawrites?
whas up wit her?
BinxB91: emma was once a great wit
Spendastic: once?
BinxB91: well, these days she talks mostly about TV
Spendastic: i talked with her once long ago, and then
i'd see her words pop up and they were...well...deranged?

Why is this funny? Because when I did the gossip column, Binx sent the very same post and quip about me, my wit, and TV, twice---to Timmy and Gus both. WTF? Get a new line, Binx. We get it. I watch too much television. I’m not witty no mo’. Point taken. Move on.

I’d like to know what exactly Binx has contributed to this site. In the words of the Famous F: “Cite please.” Almost every comment (except his famous baseball book review which read like he C&P’d it from Amazon) he’s made on the community blog and other shelfers blogs have been condescending. His comments to Schelll on her blog are always paternal blatherings. They read like sneering pats on the head.

The first abookshelf.org gossip column was my invention (drawn from inspiration of Auntie Fay Corgasm’s advice column) and, modesty aside, has gone down hill since I stopped doing it (apologies to the dead Meemaw.)

Binx needs to edit. His columns are too long and boring. If people wanted to read pages and pages of comments that contribute nothing to the overall “tidbit” they’d go into the Book Shelf themselves and participate. Edit. Edit. Edit.

I hate what my Gossip Column baby’s become. It’s boring as hell. No pizazz. No zip. No wit no mo’. RIP.

My suggestion to Binx is (and always has been) to develop his own column and fill it with all of his intellectual musings. I’d like to see if that’s possible. No TV (well maybe some PBS stuff you can nick from Naggy). No entertainment. No Tom Cruise. No co-workers. No children. No pictures. No politics. No hobbies. No school. No movies. No spouse. Just intellectual offerings as he sees them. Can he do it? Probably not. It would take more than a cut & paste effort.

The Life of Pi

I was in the Shelf a few minutes last night and Max Pi came in. I hadn’t seen him for ages. He’s one of the Shelfers who makes me laugh. He’s very secretive in the way Mr PTBunkum is secretive—I don’t know a damn thing about either of them. They’re both quirky.

True Story:
I was standing behind two old ladies at an ice cream place yesterday (I was cheating on my diet by getting a scoop of chocolate mint chip in a dish.) Old Lady #2 had been served and was waiting for Old Lady #1.

Old Lady #1 to the Counter Girl, after being handed a huge rainbow sherbet cone:
Also give me a chocolate scoop in a dish to go. It’s for my doggie.

OL#2: For your dog?!

OL#1: She’s been very good today. It’s a treat.

OL#2: Chocolate’s bad for dogs.

OL#1: My doggie likes chocolate.

OL#2: Chocolate’s BAD for dogs. It’ll kill ‘em.

OL#1: A little won’t hurt her.

OL#2: It’s bad.

OL#1: One scoop.

OL#2: Fine! Kill the little bastard! Who cares!
